Peoria Zoo Mourns Loss of Male Mandrill
PEORIA (July 11, 2022) – Peoria Zoo’s male mandrill died unexpectedly on Friday, July 8.

A necropsy is being performed to try and identify the exact cause.

Although Brody had only been at the Zoo a relatively short period of time, he had a large impact on the staff and visitors. Zoo Director, Yvonne Strode said “While he was with us, Brody matured from a juvenile to an adult mandrill. It wasn’t an easy transition but we were all excited to see his confidence grow.”

Brody’s exhibit mates Tara and Kofola remain at the Zoo in Africa!

The mandrill is the largest Old World primate and native to west-central Africa. The species is listed as vulnerable mainly due to habitat destruction and hunting for bushmeat.
