MEDIA ADVISORY: Probation and Parole Academy to Graduate 22 Officers
Officers set to work with probationers and parolees
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, will graduate 22 new agents to supervise offenders in probation and parole districts across Louisiana. The graduation and swearing in ceremony will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Louisiana State Police Training Auditorium, 7901 Independence Boulevard, Baton Rouge.

The Department’s P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) Academy began in January and agents will complete testing the morning of graduation. The last week has been spent learning issues specific to their jobs as probation and parole officers.

Louisiana’s approximately 653 probation and parole agents are critical links between law enforcement, the court system, and public safety. Agents supervise approximately 62,000 offenders released into communities statewide on probation, parole, diminution of sentence or medical furlough. 

The new agents will be assigned to 12 of the 20 district offices statewide. The districts include Amite, Baton Rouge, Covington, Jefferson, Lake Charles, Minden, Monroe, Natchitoches, New Iberia, New Orleans, Shreveport, and West Baton Rouge.
