Media Advisory

Yá'át'ééh, Hello Navajo Nation,

I hope you are well. The Navajo Nation Washington Office is extending an invitation to you for an upcoming press conference panel that we will be hosting regarding amendments to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) on July 27, 2023 at 10 am. The location will be at 750 First Street NE, Suite 940, Washington, DC 20002.

Guest panelists will include Dr. Buu Nygren, President of the Navajo Nation; Honorable Crystalyne Curley, Speaker of the 25th Navajo Nation Council; and Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03), United States House of Representatives.

The purpose of the press conference panel is to impart the importance of swiftly passing the amendments for the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act before it expires in 2024. Many people, especially our Navajo people rely on RECA funding to meet the soaring needs and costs of extensive medical expenses due to radiation exposure. It is time we acknowledge them.

Attached is more information on the event, biographies for the panelists, and recommended readings. I hope you will be able to join us and if you require more information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (301) 875-8339.

Ahxé'héé,
