Three hardworking single mothers achieve their dreams of homeownership and receive the keys to their new homes in Oak Park.
Sacramento, CA (May 31, 2024) – On Saturday, June 1st, after completing 500 hours of sweat equity, three hardworking mothers will receive the keys to their brand-new homes thanks to generous volunteers, donors, Habitat for Humanity, and the City of Sacramento.
“I want to show my children that it is not where you start but how you finish,” shared Shavonda, one of the future homeowners. “I want to leave them with something that can be passed down for generations to come.” Currently employed at U.C. Davis Medical Center, Shavonda is not only contributing to the well-being of her community but also laying the groundwork for a future that she and her children can call their own.
For Isa, an employee of the State of California since 2001, her Habitat home will be a place where her four sons can feel safe and have an environment to grow. She shared, “I want my kids to know that we are worthy of a house that we can say is our home.”
And for Amber, who lives with her mother and three children in a one-bedroom apartment, their home will provide stability and equity they have never known. “To be given a chance through Habitat for Humanity to build our own house alongside neighbors and getting to know everyone in our community has been amazing.”
Each family has worked diligently alongside hundreds of volunteers building their homes and the homes of their future neighbors, and are now purchasing their homes with a special 30-year, 0% interest equivalent mortgage.
