You’ve heard of Goats on a Roof. Now we introduce Goats in an Alley!
As our Town seeks sustainable solutions for maintaining communal spaces, this pilot project will use goats to clear blackberries and brambles from the alley between Sixth Avenue and Garden Road East. Partnering with the local company Oceanside Goatscaping, the aim is to find affordable solutions that reduce heavy equipment and environmental impact.
Oceanside Goatscaping will commence work from August 11 to 18, 2024, and use multiple goats to graze on the brambles in a 500-square-metre area. Guided by temporary fencing, the goats will clear specific sections of the alley, with the business owners on-site at all times to monitor the process.
This unique method offers many benefits, including zero emissions, minimal noise, and cost-effectiveness. If successful, this pilot could lead to annual goat-assisted cleanups, promoting a greener, more sustainable maintenance program.
