Shooting Investigation

On December 29, 2013 at approximately 12:19 am, officers responded to the 1000 block of Congdon Avenue for several reports of sounds of gunshots. Once on scene officers were advised by witnesses that several subjects were observed running into a residence immediately following the sounds of gunshots.  Officers also located several spent shell casings in the driveway of the residence.

 

Officers formed a perimeter around the residence and over the course of two hours approximately 50 subjects exited the residence where officers learned that a party had been taking place.  Officers were able to secure the residence with the assistance of the homeowner.  Several juveniles who exited the residence were transported to the Elgin Police Department and released to their parents. No injured persons were located.

 

While officers were investigating the incident, two adults, identified as 19 year-old Daniel Hernandez of Elgin, and 18 year-old Odessian Torres of South Elgin were both arrested by officers for obstructing a police officer and resisting arrest, both Class A Misdemeanors. Hernandez posted bond at the Elgin Police Department and is scheduled to appear in court on February 10, 2014 at Cook County Third Municipal District Courthouse located at 2121 Euclid Avenue, Rolling Meadows. Torres is also scheduled to appear in court on February 10, 2014, in Rolling Meadows, but is being held at the Elgin Police Department on an unrelated warrant out of Cook County.

 

Detectives from Elgin's Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit are currently conducting the investigation into the discharge of the firearm.

 

The police are asking anyone with any information for this incident to contact the Elgin Police Department's Gang Crimes Unit at 847-289-2646. Additionally, individuals can provide anonymous tips or information via the crime line at 847-695-4195 or texting 847411 and including ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
