Town Seeks New Volunteer Town Crier

Following the recent retirement of long-term Town Crier Len Mustard, The Town of Qualicum Beach is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic individual to volunteer as its Town Crier.

 

This historical role involves making public announcements, participating in civic ceremonies, and representing the Town at various community events. The Town Crier serves as a vibrant ambassador for our community, embodying our rich heritage through an engaging public presence.

 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in a “Cry Off” competition at the October 1, 2025 Special Council Meeting, where they will present a general “Town Cry” specific to Qualicum Beach.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Town Crier will:

  • Deliver public proclamations during official occasions and community events.
  • Support the promotion of Town initiatives and celebrations.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Town, enhancing community spirit.
  • Engage with residents and visitors to build a positive image of the Town.

 

Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking skills with a clear and captivating voice.
  • Enthusiasm for community engagement and historical traditions.
  • Ability to attend various events, sometimes outside regular working hours and on weekends.
  • A charismatic and approachable personality with ambassadorial qualities.
  • Driver’s licence in good standing or alternately, access to transportation.
  • 18 years of age or older.
