FREDERICTON, N.B. (Oct. 18, 2020) - The Canadian Forage and Grassland Association (CFGA) is seeking nominations for its annual Leadership Award, which is being sponsored this year by the Cattle Industry Development Council.
The CFGA Leadership Award recognizes individuals, groups or organizations that exemplify or enhance the goals of the CFGA and whose leadership in the forage and grassland sector has impact of national and/or international significance.
Nominations are open until Oct. 26. The recipient will be notified by Nov. 1, and may be asked to participate in the CFGA conference, Nov. 19, 2020, with an acceptance speech, during the presentation at approximately 12 p.m. PST.
The recipient will be presented with a memento and citation recognizing their achievements.
Student poster showcase
With the shift to a virtual event, the CFGA is hosting a scientific poster and infographic platform opportunity for students in lieu of its annual student poster contest.
Students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs are asked to submit a poster or infographic of the research they have conducted, along with a video of them explaining their poster or infographic. Students who participate in this event will receive an 85% discount on the CFGA conference VIP registration fee. That's a $305 saving, which gives students 12-months access to the CFGA conference presentations at a rate of $50. Students will receive the discount code after they submit their poster.
The CFGA's annual conference
Due to health and safety concerns because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the CFGA's 11th annual conference will be held virtually. The conference's theme, Vision 2020: Growing Forage Opportunities, will aim the event on what those in the forage and grassland sector need to know in order to thrive in their environment. Speakers will address topics such as forested rangelands, the ecological services of grassland ecosystems, and, in the highlight of the conference, present the Canadian Forage School. Participants will be walked through all angles of forage and grassland production - from the soil, up - by the country's leading experts.
The conference will include breakout sessions for more focused attention on pasture and rangelands or tame forages and hay; panel discussions; question and answer periods; coffee break "rooms" and networking opportunities. The CFGA conference will also feature the association's first-even virtual trade show, where participating CFGA conference sponsors can showcase their products during the year ahead, not just during the conference.
