For Immediate Release
Focused on the theme, Foundation Forage, Built from the Ground Up, topics such as carbon policy, high performance forage systems, soil health, grassland conservation and export market opportunities are on the agenda for the two-day conference, Nov. 14 and 15. As well, the CFGA's Technical Working Group will also meet to discuss best management practices and provide a science review on high performance forage management systems in Canada.
"The theme of this year's conference, Foundation Forage, Built from the Ground Up, draws our focus to the entire growth, harvest and export of forages," says Cedric MacLeod, CFGA's executive director. "There has never been a more critical time for all producers to pay attention to their forage production and grasslands, especially due to the high environmental benefits through carbon capture of grasslands. At the same time, export markets are prime as trade deals open new markets for livestock producers who have animals who will need to be fed."
Presentations during the conference will feature well-known industry speakers like:
- Dr. Henry Janzen of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and his presentation, Leaves of Grass,
- Karen Haugen-Kozyra of Viresco Solutions and her presentation, Carbon Market Opportunities in Agriculture,
- Dr. Dan Undersander of Forage Genetics International discussing Managing Risk and Reward for Transgenic Forages on the Landscape,
- Jerry St. Germaine of AscendantFX Capital Inc. on Managing Receivables Risk,
- Paul Pryce of the Consulate General of Japan and his presentation, Trade Policy Impacts on Global Forage Markets.
The 9th Annual CFGA Conference will be help Nov. 14-15 in Calgary, Alta. For more information, visit the conference website.
