KS GOP: Davis Must Cancel Fundraiser Hosted at the Home of  Supreme Court Justice Carol Beier

TOPEKA - Paul Davis's ethics are once again in question, as he cashes in favors earned as a former Kansas Bar Association lobbyist.  Supreme Court Justice Carol Beier, whose nomination to the Court was moved through confirmation with Davis's support, has a high dollar campaign fundraiser at her home for Davis. The invitation is below.

The event is highly inappropriate, raising numerous ethical questions for both Davis and the Kansas judicial branch, the latter of which has seen its judicial integrity under the spotlight in a number of its recent rulings. This event should be canceled to preserve the integrity of the Kansas judicial branch.

The fundraiser confirms the cozy relationship between Davis, the former Kansas Bar Association executive director who was involved with the nomination of Beier and other liberal members of the court.

"It's just another in a long line of questionable actions by both Davis and members of the Kansas Supreme Court," said Clay Barker, Executive Director of the Kansas Republican Party. "The media recently revealed that Davis was caught with a stripper during a drug raid with his own client being revealed as a meth dealer."

"Less than 10 months ago, the Kansas Supreme Court was rebuked by a unanimous US Supreme Court with the question "which way would you rather lose?', for its ruling in favor of a meth dealer convicted of murdering Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels.

Just this week, the Court double-downed on an earlier controversial ruling that will likely result in the early release of hundreds of violent criminals back into Kansas communities.  That decision followed its ruling overturning the death sentences of the Carr Brothers, who were found responsible for a series of gruesome murders in Wichita.

"Paul Davis should join every concerned Kansan, parent and law enforcement officer in protesting these questionable decisions by the Kansas Supreme Court," Barker noted.  "Instead, Davis is celebrating these decisions with a fundraiser at the home of Justice Beier."

The Kansas Supreme Court has been "packed" by Democrat governors and Kansas is now seeing repeated "California"-like" decisions coming from its judicial system.  A Paul Davis governorship would ensure a continuation of appointments to the court with a similar judicial bias.

"This court is already out of touch with the majority of the state and has lost credibility with its rulings," Barker said. "This fundraiser at Justice Beier's home for Paul Davis is just one more out of touch step by the Court.  Kansas deserves better from both the Court and Paul Davis.
