New Advent/Christmas Resources
The Heart That Grew Three Sizes: Find the True Meaning of Christmas in the Grinch by Matt Rawle- Rediscover the gift of Advent that comes without packages, ribbons, and bows. We don’t know why the Grinch hated Christmas. We just know he did.

In this new Advent study, Matt Rawle explores the faith themes in the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! including, how did the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes come Christmas morning? How did Christmas save the Grinch? Could it be that the very thing we think we hate is the one thing that changes our lives?

This Advent and Christmas season, look at a familiar classic through the lens of faith and see how Christ speaks to us through our culture. The DVD contains four video segments of 8-10 minutes each, to go with the four book chapters. For use during the group sessions, these videos feature Matt Rawle teaching in his friendly, casual, appealing style. All video sessions are closed captioned.

Sessions:
Session 1: When Everything Is Wrong - Matt Rawle discusses the way hate distorts our vision, the importance of remembering the Christmas story well, and the peace that Christ brings us. (10:01)

Session 2: When Christmas Isn't Christmas - Matt Rawle invites us to consider the ways we celebrate Christmas and the extent to which they point us to Christ. Or perhaps these traditions have come to exist for their own sake, and we need to rediscover the heart of the Christmas story. (10:56)

Session 3: When Light Shines - Matt Rawle explores the role of light and darkness, and how so much of our Christmas celebrations involve light. When light shines, it reveals our need for spiritual growth and understanding. (9:54)

Session 4: When Joy Is Our Song Matt Rawle explores the Whos’ singing, which transformed even the Grinch’s heart. Music is bound up with the joy we find at Christmas. And in the end, the Whos and the Grinch feasting together points to the Christian hope of forgiveness and reconciliation. (8:19)

Almost Christmas: A Wesleyan Advent Experience by Magrey deVega, Matt Rawle, April Casperson, Ingrid McIntyre - In 1741, John Wesley preached his famous sermon titled "The Almost Christian" in which he encouraged people to follow Christ wholeheartedly. We should not be satisfied with being almost Christian but rather strive towards being altogether a Christian.

In Almost Christmas: A Wesleyan Advent Experience, author and pastor Magrey deVega leads a group of authors to explore how we can make the same commitment to Christ during Advent, connecting our Wesleyan heritage with the traditional Advent themes of Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace.

In this book, perfect for Advent, deVega and the other authors break down the barriers that prevent us from experiencing an "altogether" love, hope, joy, and peace in Christ in our lives and in the world around us. They demonstrate the promises God offers to us that makes those longings a reality, inviting us to claim those promises for ourselves this Advent and celebrate an altogether Christmas.

The four-session DVD features Magrey deVega guiding participants through the study. The video sessions are approximately 10-12 minutes in length and, when combined with the four book chapters, make an ideal four-week group study. All videos sessions are closed captioned.
