Three Jeffco Schools Win Sustainability Awards From the City of Lakewood
Defenders of the Planet! Dunstan Middle School, South Lakewood Elementary, and Devinny Elementary have been so named by the City of Lakewood as part of their 2020 Sustainability Awards ! Dunstan's Planet Patriots student group reduced emissions, improved air quality, and increased recycling; South Lakewood's Styrofoam Stoppers eliminated the use of styrofoam trays at their school and helped convince the district to follow suit; and Devinny's Environmental Club reduced waste through recycling and diverted nearly 6,400 pounds of waste from the landfill including hard-to-recycle items.

We can't wait to see what these difference makers do in 2020-21!
Let's Do Some Summer Check-Ins
Not everyone is on break. Here's what's going on around the district this summer.
Summer of Early Learning
For some students, summer does not mean the learning stops. Our Summer of Early Learning program shifted to remote for 2020 to focus on building literacy skills in our youngest students in grades 1 - 3. This year, we have 515 students learning from 36 teachers. Many aspects had to be reprogrammed, and the work continues through July 2.
It's Construction Season!
The summer of 2020 is our busiest construction season yet, with projects happening at:
58 of 88 Elementary Schools
11 of 17 High Schools
6 of 17 Middle Schools
2 of 2 7-12 Schools
2 of 6 K-8 Schools
7 of 18 Option Schools
1 of 4 Athletic Facilities

Food & Nutrition Services
11 sites, 72 staff, 53,660 meals: Summer food service in 2020 looks different than every year before. These sites are serving as hubs for our community, thanks to partnerships with the Jeffco Schools Foundation and The Action Center , to address food insecurity in Jeffco. We are so proud of this work and thankful for their support. Read more .
Teacher Learning
Teacher Learning is partnering with universities to build a strong teacher pipeline, working together to problem solve how university students might get in their student teaching hours with restrictions on the number of people allowed in a room. This summer, we have university students conferring with Jeffco students online in small groups.
Educational Technology
Under Ed Tech's guidance, three summer programs are running a pilot of Securly Classroom, a classroom management tool that gives teachers freedom to guide, monitor, and communicate with students during class or office hours, including observing student engagement, interacting with students, and sending announcements.
Administrator Learning
Principals from each level, central administrators, and community superintendents are testing components of the Restart Model, preparing for the annual leadership kick-off event that occurs every school year, training on effective remote environment leadership, and reviewing model school setups for in-person learning in the fall.
Warren Tech Completes Construction on Outdoor Leadership Challenge Course
Warren Tech Central recently completed construction on their outdoor leadership program’s Challenge Course, a project eight years in the making. The course includes a zip line, two high training platforms with more than twelve challenge elements, and a low “ground school" area for students to learn how to facilitate a high challenge course. The course was designed by Challenge Design Innovations based on plans created by Pete Nelson and Brian Graham, Warren Tech staff. Funds were collected over the years to further the long-term plan for the Outdoor Leadership Program.
