Reporters and photographers from the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Voice of San Diego and KNSD-TV, the NBC affiliate in San Diego, spent the day touring the San Onofre site.
The new railyard still under construction was the first stop. With the removal of the AWS office complex, multiple rail lines are being installed to accommodate a future increase in rail traffic. To date, more than 1,200 rail and truck shipments have left the site, carrying 50 million pounds of waste.
The journalists also visited the turbine building and the spent fuel storage systems.
