Letter from the Board Chair
Dear Medical Alumni Board Members,

It has been an exciting time as we begin the second half of this Academic Year. I will address the
changes in Board Membership since the welcome additions to our staff will be addressed separately.

After beginning his 2nd Term, Dr. Michael McQuillen (C'53, M'57, R'60) decided to resign in favor of Emeritus Status in order to stay closer to his family in Palo Alto, CA. We thank him so heartily for his service and look forward to hearing his voice on phone conferences. In order to fill his slot on the Board for the next 6 months, I appointed Dr. John Roohan (M'80) who is also from California, albeit Southern California. He is eligible to run this Spring for a full term to begin July 1, 2019. Please read Dr. Roohan's note in the Nominations Committee update in this Newsletter.

Dr. Matthew Cooper has changed from Awards to Philanthropy Committee on which he can better use his experience of continuing the Jesuit culture of giving.

GUAA Medical Alumni Awards
Please  join us on Friday February 8, 2019 from 6-9 PM at the Four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, where the Georgetown University Alumni Association will be honoring several alumni leaders, including three medical alumni, for their contributions and service to the University.
Click here for reservations and more information.

The Founders Alumni Award, named for the founders and first faculty members of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, will be presented to Dr. Joseph F. Panarelli, M.D. (B'03, M'07) and Dr. Christopher M. Farrell, M.D. (C'95, M'99).

The William G. Reynolds Young Alumni Award recognizes the accomplishments of an undergraduate alumni within the first fifteen years of their graduation.  Christina M. Hanna, M.D., M.P.H. (F'08, M'13) is one of the two recipients selected for this year's award, which is the first time since the award was created in 2012 that a medical alumnus has been chosen. The award was renamed this past year to honor Bill Reynolds (C'79), who retired this year after serving for 17 years as the Executive Director of the Georgetown University Alumni Association. Congratulations to all!

Nominations Committee Update
We bid au revoir to Dr. Michael McQuillen (C'53, M'57, R'60), who recently retired from the Medical Alumni Board, and thank him for his several years of service on the board. Fellow Californian Dr. Roohan will fill his position for the remainder of the term and will join us for the Medical Alumni Board meeting in February. Welcome Dr. Roohan!

Chair, Nominations Committee

I am privileged and honored to have the opportunity to join the Medical Alumni Board! I'm a proud
husband and a father of two teenagers, 17 and 14, living in Torrance, CA. I pursued my undergraduate studies at UC Irvine prior to coming to Georgetown as a Special Masters and then Medical Student. After graduation, I trained in Family Medicine at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center. I have been a practicing family physician for over 25 years, with 18 of those years in an inner-city primary care practice. I continue to practice once a week in addition to my current role as Medical Director for Care Management at LA Care, a public health plan. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, golf, and travel.
