Medical Interpreter Course: Language Spanish
This course prepares you for the
National Board Certification for Medical Interpreters  
Break language barriers in healthcare. Transform your bilingual ability into a rewarding medical interpreting skill. Our online Medical Interpreter training program was designed for individuals who are fluent in English and Spanish and who strive to achieve accurate communication and cultural sensitivity among our Hispanic patients. Obtain your certificate of completion to satisfy the prerequisite to apply for national certification.
45 hour didactic online course:
  1. Roles of the Medical Interpreter - 3 HOURS
  2. Skills of the Medical Interpreter - 3 HOURS
  3. Qualifications of the Medical Interpreter - 3 HOURS
  4. Foundations of medical words - 3 HOURS
  5. Body systems medical terminology - 33 HOURS
Course Process:
  1. Interview (optional): contact program instructor to discuss interpreter training interest and course process Dr. Diana Cavazos cavazosdm@uthscsa.edu 
  2. Assessment REQUIRED: Provide proof of Spanish language proficiency. Email a document of your choice to cavazosdm@uthscsa.edu
  3. Approval: After review of Spanish language proficiency you will receive approval and be emailed instructions & link to register.
  4. Pay the $1000 course fee (credit or debit only). Discounts: Currently Enrolled UT Health School of Nursing Students - pay $100. UT Health School of Nursing Alumni - pay $750
  5. Begin course modules.
  6. Course completion includes final assessment and course evaluation
After Course on your Own:
  1. Certification Application: apply with National Board Certification for Medical Interpreters.
  2. Pass the National Board Certification exam.
  3. You are now a CERTIFIED medical interpreter
