Dr. Robert Knowlton

Dr. Robert Knowlton, Professor of Clinical Neurology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), serves as Medical Director of the UCSF Epilepsy Surgical Program

Dr. Knowlton's work is dedicated to the  fields of epilepsy and human brain mapping. His research focuses on neuroimaging and decision-making in the surgical treatment of seizure disorders. He has pioneered the clinical application of combining advanced brain imaging methods with EEG and MEG measures of brain activity related to epilepsy. The primary goal of Dr. Knowlton's work is to identify advances in imaging and neurophysiology-based technologies that can improve epilepsy surgery and increase the number of patients who have the opportunity to gain control of their seizures.

Dr. Knowlton graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in Biological Chemistry, received his M.D. from Louisiana State University School of Medicine New Orleans, and finished his neurology residency at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Knowlton completed his epilepsy and neurophysiology fellowship at UCSF and received a Masters of Science in Public Health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health.

In Dr. Knowlton's spare time he enjoys drawing, sailing and running, particularly in the Marin Headlands and on Mount Tamalpais. He has a passion for cars and enjoys driving and working on '
70s vintage  BMWs. 

Dr. Knowlton's insight and experience are highly admired by his peers and we are honored to have him serve as Co-Chair of our Professional Advisory Board .
