Dr. Susannah Cornesis an Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) specializing in Epilepsy. Her clinical interests include evaluating patients with treatment-resistant epilepsy, caring for women with epilepsy and striving generally to improve the daily lives of people with epilepsy. Dr. Cornes is inspired by her patients on a daily basis and humbled by the opportunity to care for them.
Dr. Cornes' research has investigated the impact of stress reduction on seizures and has characterized surgical outcomes in certain populations. As part of her research in medical education, she led the development of an
iPad application called the NeuroExam Tutor to help students learn how to examine patients with neurologic symptoms. She has received teaching awards from the Department of Neurology and the Academy of Medical Educators at UCSF.
Dr. Cornes grew up in Atlanta, Georgia before earning her Bachelor's degree from Yale University with highest honors. She attended University of California, San Francisco for medical school and stayed for her Residency in Neurology and her Epilepsy Fellowship before joining the faculty in 2010. She also completed the Teaching Scholars Program for medical educators in 2010.
Dr. Cornes was honored to join the Professional Advisory Board for the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California (EFNC) in 2014. Her
favorite EFNC events have been the
Epilepsy Stroll (
coming up on May 21st at Six Flags in Vallejo!) and the new
Epilepsy iConnect at Home program, which allows patients and community members to connect on-line for a brief physician presentation followed by a open forum for discussion.
Dr. Cornes lives in San Francisco with her husband and two children, ages 8 and 5. In her free time, she enjoys playing piano duets with her daughter, making a mess while cooking with her son, singing with friends from her college choir, and exploring the California great outdoors.
