Maritza Lopez, RN, MS, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. Maritza received her Bachelors of Science from San Francisco State University and a Master's degree at the UCSF School of Nursing. She has worked at the UCSF Epilepsy Center for over ten years

Maritza's tenure at UCSF has allowed her to support patients in several ways. She advises, assists, and coordinates care for patients seen in the clinic.  More recently, Maritza's focus has been coordinating care for patients undergoing video EEG and for those interested in the possibility of pursuing surgery. Maritza is also fluent in Spanish, which provides the opportunity for the Spanish-Speaking community to have an advocate in obtaining proper epilepsy care.

"I am passionate about my job and always strive to help in any way I can!"
-- Maritza Lopez
Maritza and son, Nicholas

Maritza holds a special place in her heart for San Francisco--she was born, raised and currently lives in the Bay Area. She grew up in
a family of eight (five sisters!) and has a son whom she is very proud of--a senior in college! Maritza enjoys challenging herself and taking fun classes at City College of San Francisco such as guitar and Spanish. She enjoys exercising, traveling, reading, listening to music (especially 70's!), cheering on the 49ers, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Maritza has been involved with the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California for over ten years. She was the first recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award, which is presented annually at the Candlelight Gala. In addition to serving as a member of the Professional Advisory Board, Maritza  facilitates a monthly Young Adult Support Group, has volunteered as a camp nurse for Camp Coelho   since its inception, and has traveled to Spain  the last three years to volunteer at an Epilepsy Youth Summer Camp abroad.

Thank you Maritza for your involvement and dedication to EFNC--you continue to make an impact in so many patients lives and for that we are grateful!
