Care for Caregivers
What happens when 12 parents finally get two hours to breathe?
Becoming a Resource Parent means opening your home to a child who needs one, sometimes on short notice, sometimes for months or years. It's one of the most meaningful commitments a person can make. And it doesn't come without real challenges.
That's why Aldea doesn't just place children in homes. We support the families who take them in.
Last month, twelve of Aldea's Resource Parents gathered at our offices for Care for Caregivers, an evening of training, connection, and community. Parents had honest conversations about self-care and the emotional weight of this work. They connected over pizza and Italian sodas, while Aldea case managers kept the children occupied, fed, and happy. Parents got a rare, well-deserved couple of adult-only hours to breathe.
“I recently attended a training through my foster care agency Aldea, and it focused on the importance of self-care for foster parents. The training was a great reminder that in order to care well for the children in our home, we also have to care for ourselves. I really valued the training because it gave me the opportunity to learn that taking care of myself doesn’t have to be big. I encourage everyone to find one small way to invest in themselves. Whether it’s asking for help, taking time to rest, or simplifying one area of your life.”
-Mya Navarro, Resource Parent
Strong families don't happen without strong support behind them. That's exactly what Aldea is here to provide.
