NLLD Joins Governor Edwards on Tour of Morganza Levee System
NLLD Board President Cory Kief and Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois joined Governor John Bel Edwards and other local and state officials on a flyover tour of levees and floodgates along the Morganza to the Gulf hurricane protection system on February 6.

Bourgeois (pictured right) also had the opportunity to speak with the Governor about levees and drainage projects being built in North Lafourche to reduce the flooding risk for our community, and progress being made on the Lafourche reaches of Morganza to the Gulf.

Also joining the flyover tour were LA Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Chair Chip Kline, LA Dept. of Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn Wilson, Office of Community Development Director Pat Forbes, and representatives of the Terrebonne and South Lafourche Levee Districts.

NLLD Executive Director Dwayne Bourgeois
was the guest speaker at the
Thibodaux Rotary Club's January 22 luncheon.
He gave an update on over $11.6 million in levee
and drainage projects now under construction, and projects valued at $27 million now in design.
PROJECT SPOTLIGHT:

Lockport to Larose Reach C4-C5-D1
NLLD is excavating a new forced drainage canal and filling in the existing forced drainage canal (40 Arpent Canal) as part of the Lockport to Larose Hurricane Protection Project.

This will allow NLLD to increase the footprint and height of the adjacent levee, creating a more structurally stable hurricane protection system for this area. Additionally, the new forced drainage canal will provide greater storage capacity within the system while pump systems draw the excess water out of the area.

Excavation of the new canal is expected to be completed by early fall 2019, and the levee upgrades along reaches C4, C5 and D1 should be completed in 2020.
