NEW IBERIA, La. --- The speakers for the second annual Dave Robicheaux's Hometown Literary Festival have been announced.
Symposium: The University of Louisiana at Lafayette's academic symposium on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. - noon at the Iberia Parish Library's Main Branch at 445 E. Main St. in New Iberia. |

UL Lafayette's panel at the Dave Robicheaux festival will address folk culture and customs in literature and life. Dr. Patricia Gaitely, a James Lee Burke scholar, will speak on revenants in the Dave Robicheaux novels; John Sharp will report on his research on dance halls in Acadiana and Becca Begnaud will share the tradition of Cajun faith healers, traiteurs.
Suzanne Dugas will be the moderator. The session will showcase:
- Dr. Patricia Gaitely, James Lee Burke Scholar
- John Sharpe, Acadiana Dance Halls Researcher
- Becca Begnaud, French-Speaking Traditional Cajun Traiteur
Authors/Publishers Roundtable:
"Light of the World" will see authors and publishers gather in a roundtable discussion on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 8 - 9:30 a.m. at the Sliman Theater at 129 E. Main St. in New Iberia. Vicky Branton of The Daily Iberian will moderate. The participants include:
- Teresa Harvard Johnson, Journalist (will also present a workshop March 31 at 1 p.m. at the Sliman Theater)
- Steve Spillman, Publisher (will also present a workshop March 31 at 3 p.m. at the Sliman Theater)
- Stanley Dry, Author & Editor
Featured Southern Speaker: Margaret Wrinkle will have a panel at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (119 Jefferson St. in New Iberia) on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 3 - 5 p.m and will discuss her latest novel "Wash." Dr. Phebe Hayes, Dr. Ibrahima Seck and Jari Honora will also participate in the panel.
