Policy Updates

Chamber, Together with Broad Coalitions, Successfully Opposes Tech Regulations

The San Jose Chamber of Commerce joined broad coalitions of business, technology, and community partners to successfully oppose several bills that would have imposed restrictive regulations on AI and the tech industry. Through these united efforts, the following bills were defeated:

  • AB 1018 (Bauer-Kahan): Would have imposed onerous compliance requirements on businesses of all sizes using automated decision tools such as dynamic pricing or resume screening.
  • AB 33 (Aguiar-Curry): Proposed a ban on the delivery of commercial goods via autonomous vehicles.
  • AB 1331 (Elhawary): Applied an overly broad definition of surveillance tools and locations, undermining workplace safety and security for both business owners and employees.

We thank our members and industry partners that brought these bills and others to our attention this legislative session. The Chamber remains committed to supporting innovation, strengthening our regional economy, and advancing the responsible development of emerging technologies.

Waymo's Expansion at SJC

San José Mineta International Airport will soon become the first commercial international airport in California, and only the second in the world, to offer Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hailing service. Launching later this year and ahead of San Jose’s 2026 global sporting events, the partnership between the City, SJC, and Waymo showcases our region’s leadership in innovation and economic growth. The San Jose Chamber of Commerce is proud to support this expansion and looks forward to welcoming Waymo’s continued growth and impact in San Jose.

Chamber Supports Verizon's Acquisition of Frontier Communications

The San Jose Chamber of Commerce has voiced strong support for Verizon’s acquisition of Frontier Communications. We believe this investment will expand broadband infrastructure, improve service reliability, and make internet access more affordable across California. We look forward to seeing the acquisition move forward.
