Interfaith event at Algonquin College teaches students about Judaism


Earlier this week, Federation’s Jodi Green led a Judaism 101 session at Algonquin College in partnership with Hillel Ottawa to foster interfaith understanding and combat antisemitism through education. Students explored Jewish history, culture, and contemporary issues in a welcoming space, asking thoughtful questions and challenging misconceptions. The initiative strengthens campus inclusion and paves the way for similar programs at Ottawa’s other post-secondary institutions.

Hillel Ottawa’s Kol Yisrael program explores diversity in Israel


Hillel Ottawa’s Kol Yisrael program is helping post-secondary students explore the ethnic diversity of Israel through dialogue and education. Led this semester by volunteer Jaqui Gesund Kattan, an OJCS educator and historian, the program brings personal perspectives, thoughtful discussion, and multiple narratives to the forefront. Students gain deeper insight into Israeli society, Jewish identity, and the richness of global Jewish experiences. The program expands understanding across backgrounds.

The legacy of Elly Bollegraaf and 
the importance of bearing witness


This Holocaust Education Month, Archivist Teigan Goldsmith Hitsman honours the legacy of Elly Bollegraaf z”l, a child survivor whose lifelong commitment to documenting memory profoundly shaped the Ottawa Jewish Archives. Through decades of volunteerism, meticulous record-keeping, and dedication to preserving survivor stories, she ensured future generations can learn, remember, and bear witness.
