A Note from Scott and Marsha
January 27, 2022
Welcome all newcomers to the Triangle where only in America can you experience 70’s for a few days and drop 3-5” of snow and temperatures in the teens days later. Not only that, we offer panicked people who clean out the grocery stores and act like the world is ending. When have you ever on a normal week consumed 8 gallons of milk and 10 loaves of bread EVER? I rest my case.

Scott, Joey, and I returned to a winter wonderland from Tampa, Florida. Joey is our Department Lead/Buyer for our houseplant category and we participated in the Tropical Plant Expo. This was amazing and Joey found awesome new vendors and was like a little kid in a candy store despite his 6’3” physique and charming personality! I followed him around tucking brochures and catalogs in his backpack, kept him hydrated and in return, he educated me in all the plants! It was a perfect match.

We had such a wonderful time with him and enjoyed sunsets and cocktails. Scott needed many cocktails as he was staying on top of the weather panicking if we would be able to fly back. Me? Not so much. He worries enough for everyone. He is so good at it that I think he should consider bottling and selling it! Millions I tell you, millions.

Needless to say, we did make it back. Joey flew in before the storm and we flew in after. No, our plane did not slide off the runway but I wish I could have captured Scott’s face as he was reading the WRAL headline of that. I also wish you could have seen his face for the snowball episode but that will be for next week’s story.

Yes, we are a whole show with all the characters. But let’s be real. The plants are the main characters and we are simply a side show, a funny side show but nonetheless. Feel free to stop in anytime and be a supporting actor or a stunt double. And we always need rotating shoppers. You’ve got this!!! Be part of our show. Wink, wink!
FUN FACT: O'KELLY CHAPEL
Last week, I ended with wondering what James O'Kelly wife, Elizabeth, was like. I found this article down the rabbit hole.

The wills indicate Rev James O'Kelly could read and write but Elizabeth was not able to read and write and she made her mark. Reportedly Dr James M O'Kelly a great grandson wrote, “IT IS SAID THAT JAMES O’KELLEY HAD A GREAT MANY MANUSCRIPTS IN HIS HOME AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, AND NO DOUBT THEY WERE VALUABLE DOCUMENTS, BUT HIS WIFE HAD LIVED IN THE CONTENTION ABOUT CHURCH GOVERNMENT SO LONG, AND HAD HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT IT, THAT AFTER HIS DEATH SHE SAID SHE WANTED PEACE FROM THE QUESTION, AND SO SHE COLLECTED THESE MANUSCRIPTS AND PUT FIRE TO THEM IN ORDER THAT FURTHER CONTENTION MIGHT BE AVOIDED.”

Blink-blink. Relatable on so many levels regarding so many subjects. We could have been friends. But what did he leave her beyond contentious manuscripts?
NEW WINTER ARRIVALS!
This week's plant delivery was unreal! Beautiful Dogwoods, Herbs & Vegetables are just some of the things we received!
GARDEN CENTER FEATURES
PEPEROMIA
2022 is the Year of Peperomia. Not only is this cutie air-purifying, but it also represents prosperity, luck and happiness! There is no green thumb required as Peperomias are very easy to grow and can make a great plant choice for beginners. Not only are they forgiving plants that tolerate some benign neglect, the spectacular variety of colors and textures available within the species means that you can amass an interesting collection of plants for every style and space, all of which require the same care!
CANDYTUFT
Your mid to late-spring garden will absolutely glow when this Candytuft sets it's clusters of pure white, fragrant, butterfly-attracting blooms. More compact, this evergreen perennial sports deep green, needle-like leaves and heavy masses of lacy, white blooms in early Spring and later in the Spring too. It may bloom sporadically in the fall. Its' low-growing habit makes it an excellent edging plant for borders, paths or sidewalks. It looks especially stunning in rock gardens or cascading over ledges. It is also a beautiful evergreen addition in containers and window boxes! Prefers full sun and needs good drainage so it will live it's best life!
FROST RESISTANT POTTERY
Winter doesn’t mean you can’t have plants in your yard. However, like some plants, not all pottery is robust enough to survive the winter if left outside. It’s important to provide a strong, stable container that will support the plants as well as withstand replanting for years to come. Our handcrafted frost resistant pottery made in Vietnam is designed to last a lifetime! We have every color imaginable to match any style or patio design! Our spring order will arrive soon and we are so excited!
