Dear Parents of future Ivy Classical Academy students,

It is a pleasure to introduce myself to all of you.

My name is Dr. David Withun, and I am the founding Head of School at Ivy Classical Academy. I am a veteran of the United States Army, and I have been a classical educator for more than a decade. During that time, I have been a founding leader at two other highly successful classical charter schools. I have also taught many subjects at every grade level from Kindergarten through college, including Literature, Composition, History, Philosophy, and Science.

I frequently write and speak about classical education, the humanities, and related topics. My first book, Co-workers in the Kingdom of Culture: Classics and Cosmopolitanism in the Thought of W. E. B. Du Bois, was published by Oxford University Press last year.

I earned my MA and PhD in Humanities at Faulkner University in Montgomery, and I am very happy to return to Alabama as the founding Head of School at Ivy Classical Academy, along with my wife, Vanessa, and our three children.

Ivy Classical Academy is a tuition-free classical public charter school affiliated with Hillsdale College. We will be opening in the 2024-2025 school year for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade, serving students in Prattville and the surrounding communities. We will add one grade each to become a K-12 school. Enrollment for our first classes begins in December!

I hope that you and your future Ivy Classical students are able to join us at Centerpoint Fellowship Church on Monday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. In addition to introducing myself, I will provide updates and information about the school, including the progress on our new facility, details about the school's culture and curriculum, and upcoming enrollment dates. There will also be an opportunity to have all of your questions answered.
