LUM Volunteer of the Month - June 2024
Join us in congratulating Kirk Germond for being selected the LUM Volunteer of the Month for June 2024.

A LUM volunteer since February 2022, he has worked Thursday mornings at the LUM Protein Food Pantry as well as served evening meals at the LUM Emergency Shelter and helped at the LUM Community Thanksgiving Feast and LUM Jubilee Christmas. With experience gained from working during the Thursday hours at the food pantry and encouragement from fellow volunteers and staff, Kirk began managing the newly opened Monday hours at the LUM Protein Food Pantry earlier this month. 

His dedication to improving the lives of others in our community is truly commendable. Coupled with his strong work ethic, reliability, and quiet leadership, these qualities have rightfully earned Kirk the honor of LUM Volunteer of the Month for June 2024.

LUM Camp 2024 Theme is . . . A N I M A L S!
LUM Camp is Going to be PAWS-itively Awesome
LUM Camp 2024 is set to be the best week of the summer for nearly 90 local children. This year's theme is “Animals!”

Marlena Edmondson, the LUM Camp director, shared that the program will explore many fascinating aspects of animals, including service and support animals. LUM Campers will learn from experts and see amazing furry friends in action! Some highlights include:
  • Reign & Friends - an agility demonstration by Reign and other dogs
  • Service & Support Animals - Indiana Canine Assistant Network will share how they are trained, why they're so important, and how to properly approach and interact with them
  • Arts & Crafts - creating a lion with recycled materials and animal-themed rock painting
  • Movie Night - screening of an animal-themed film on a large outdoor screen

LUM Camp also features nature hikes, boating, swimming, morning campfires, wall climbing, zip-lining, a giant swing, plenty of snacks (including lots of s'mores), delicious meals, and a diverse team of caring counselors. LUM Camp is going to be PAWS-itively awesome!

Let's Make This Summer One to Remember!
Needed each evening from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. -or- 8 p.m. to midnight. Check-in guests, serve meals and distribute bedding & shower items. Training is provided. Learn More.

A simple meal for 48 shelter guests is needed each evening at 8 p.m. Planning and preparing a meal is a great activity for groups. You may stay and serve the meal or drop it off in advance. Learn more.

Volunteers are needed Monday afternoons (Noon to 4 p.m.) & Thursday mornings (9 a.m. – noon) in downtown Lafayette. Check-in clients, enter data, pick up food, assist clients in shopping & organize the pantry. Learn more.
Needed each weekday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Help children with math, reading, arts & crafts and recreation; prepare and serve snacks and lunch, and supervise study trips. Training provided. Learn more.

Needed five days (Monday, July 22 to Friday, July 26). With two other staff, oversee a group of ten children during a four-day, overnight camp. Support each child at camp. Training is provided. Learn more.

Needed weekday mornings & evenings and Saturdays. Pick up surplus food at local shops and deliver them to LUM. Also, LUM is looking for an individual to coordinate the program. Learn more.
