Meet Sajida Sarahin (left) and Jasmine Oudeh (right) , rising seniors at Bethlehem University who were interning this summer in Washington, DC, at EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) Global Catholic Network. Jasmine is majoring in Accounting and Sajida is majoring in Arabic Literature and minoring in Translation. They were interning thanks to the Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Program. They and their fellow McGuckin Interns have just returned to the Holy Land and are enjoying their last few weeks of summer vacation before beginning their senior year at Bethlehem University.
At EWTN, they had the opportunity to observe the behind-the-scenes work of putting together a daily news and analysis program. With this glimpse behind the curtain of Catholic American media, Jasmine and Sajida greatly enjoyed getting to see just how much must come together for the organization to run regularly and efficiently. Jasmine's internship focused on the recording and editing of EWTN videos. And Sajida's internship dealt with the behind the scenes activity from the control room. They are shown together on set.
The Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Program not only focuses on the work experience, but also highlights the cultural experience of being in the United States for a summer. The interns traveled together a small amount in the United States, namely to New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Sajida agrees with Jasmine's sentiments as she describes the internship experience as a wonderful opportunity to, "gain work experience, travel the world, and share our stories and the story of Bethlehem University with others."
Jasmine deeply appreciates the opportunity to study at the only Christian/Catholic university in the Holy Land. "Bethlehem University gave me the chance to communicate with people from different cities within Palestine and different backgrounds. I also got the chance to talk with foreign visitors, and got to share our story." After she graduates, Jasmine plans to pursue a master's degree and then get a CPA.

She is grateful for those who enable her to follow her dreams and achieve her ambitions. "I want to give a warm thank you to those wonderful donors who support Bethlehem University, without whom hundreds of Palestinians would never get the chance to study at Bethlehem University and get their degrees."
Sajida also found a home away from home at Bethlehem University. "Throughout my years at the University I made a lot of amazing friends from different backgrounds and faiths, which was truly an eyeopening experience. This helped to change my way of thinking and helped me foster a deep respect for others - because we are far more similar than different. Bethlehem University has given me a large number of opportunities and I'm so grateful!" She hopes to travel a little after graduating, inspired in no small part by this summer experience. "The more I travel the more I feel free and the more I feel connected to God. He created this world for everyone to explore and enjoy its beauty." After that, she looks forward to working in translation, which is in high demand.

She wanted to end this article with a word of thanks for the donors who have supported her and her fellow students. "We really appreciate the help of the generous people who believe in us and help us towards a bright future. On behalf of the students at Bethlehem University, I want to say 'thank you' to all those people who make our education possible."
The Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Program enables top students from Bethlehem University to intern in the United States and abroad. The Sir John McGuckin Mentoring and Internship Program was established in 2010 by the Northwestern Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. Jasmine and six other McGuckin Interns are shown together.
