Introducing Matthew Maldonado
Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor
Dear Students and Friends,

We are proud to introduce our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor, Matthew Maldonado.  Coban has known Matthew as his student in Muay Thai since 2009 at New York Jiu Jitsu.

In 2011, when we were planning our business and building our program, we did not want to add a BJJ program right away with just any instructor.  We wanted somebody with outstanding qualifications as well as a proper martial character.  We were looking for the right person who would have the right "fit" with Coban's Muay Thai Camp.  When the opportunity to work with Matthew came up, we jumped on it right away. He has that same calm and positive vibe that Coban possess.  As far as qualifications, they are endless: his placements in competition and awards are listed further below.  Matthew loves the art; he teaches and competes constantly and continuously.
We are lucky, honored and excited to have Matthew on board.  Welcome, Matthew!
Matthew Maldonado Our BJJ Instructor
Matt Maldonado

Since a young age Matthew was intrigued by the martial arts - he trained in karate and boxing as a kid. In 2007, during his sophomore year in college he made the switch to BJJ. After graduating, he moved back to NYC, and started training much more frequently and added MMA and Muay Thai to his training regimen. Competing pretty consistently all over the country, he was hooked and knew what he wanted to do the rest of his life.  His talent is natural.  Early in his career, he was able to reach a majority of his goals without a proper strength and conditioning program and only training part time.  Now 5 years after beginnning training in the gentle art of BJJ, Matthew is one of the most active competitors on the East Coast - placing or winning in almost every tournament he enters. Currently, he is training full time with a strength and conditioning coach, and an elite team of training partners.  He is the best that he has ever been.

He is and has always been very passionate about teaching the art to everyone he came across. Matthew was one of the BJJ instructors at Alliance in New York City.  So, not only he is a great competitor, but a terrific instructor.

With BJJ as his full-time career, he will be taking the tournament and MMA circuit head on this year as well as building up a team of champions at Cobans Muay Thai Camp.

Welcome, Matthew, to Team Coban!
