We are pleased to announce Dr. Geoffrey Barnes as the new President of the Anticoagulation Forum Board of Directors. Dr. Barnes, a cardiologist at the University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center and associate professor of internal medicine at U-M Medical School, will serve a two-year term through 2027. 

A distinguished leader in cardiology, vascular medicine, and anticoagulation therapy, Dr. Barnes brings more than 15 years of expertise in advancing patient care and optimizing anticoagulation management. As a current member of the AC Forum Board of Directors, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the organization's vision, mission, and strategic direction to ensure continued growth and success. 

Dr. Barnes’ clinical and research efforts center on delivering high-quality anticoagulant and antithrombotic therapy to patients with atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism, and other cardiovascular conditions. In addition to his leadership role with the Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan funded Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative (MAQI2), he leads several AHRQ- and NIH-funded studies aimed at improving anticoagulation care and advancing research in quality improvement, implementation science, health systems engineering, and shared decision-making between patients and providers.

President Allison Burnett, PharmD, PhC, CACP, expressed her enthusiasm for Dr. Barnes' leadership, stating:

In addition to his role with AC Forum, Dr. Barnes holds leadership positions within the American College of Cardiology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and remains a leading voice in anticoagulation research and education. 



The Anticoagulation Forum is excited for this next chapter and confident that under Dr. Barnes' leadership, the organization will continue to drive innovation and excellence in anticoagulation care.

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Allison Burnett for her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the Anticoagulation Forum over the past several years. Since stepping into the role of President in 2021, Dr. Burnett has been a driving force in advancing our mission, expanding our reach, and championing anticoagulation stewardship on a global scale.

A dedicated clinician, educator, and researcher, Dr. Burnett serves as the lead pharmacist of the Inpatient Antithrombosis Stewardship program at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and as an associate adjunct clinical professor at the UNM College of Pharmacy. Her work has significantly shaped best practices in anticoagulation, thrombosis, and bleeding management, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications and extensive contributions to national and international conferences. Her leadership and vision led to the creation of the PGY2 Pharmacy Residency in Thrombosis & Hemostasis, and she continues to influence the field through her role on the National Certification Board for Anticoagulation Providers.



Dr. Burnett has been an integral part of the AC Forum since 2011, and her leadership has strengthened our programs, partnerships, and impact in profound ways. Her passion for stewardship, dedication to education, and tireless advocacy have set a high bar for excellence, and we are deeply grateful for all that she has contributed.
