We are pleased to announce Dr. Geoffrey Barnes as the new President of the Anticoagulation Forum Board of Directors. Dr. Barnes, a cardiologist at the University of Michigan Health Frankel Cardiovascular Center and associate professor of internal medicine at U-M Medical School, will serve a two-year term through 2027.
A distinguished leader in cardiology, vascular medicine, and anticoagulation therapy, Dr. Barnes brings more than 15 years of expertise in advancing patient care and optimizing anticoagulation management. As a current member of the AC Forum Board of Directors, he has played an instrumental role in shaping the organization's vision, mission, and strategic direction to ensure continued growth and success.
Dr. Barnes’ clinical and research efforts center on delivering high-quality anticoagulant and antithrombotic therapy to patients with atrial fibrillation, venous thromboembolism, and other cardiovascular conditions. In addition to his leadership role with the Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Michigan funded Michigan Anticoagulation Quality Improvement Initiative (MAQI2), he leads several AHRQ- and NIH-funded studies aimed at improving anticoagulation care and advancing research in quality improvement, implementation science, health systems engineering, and shared decision-making between patients and providers.

In addition to his role with AC Forum, Dr. Barnes holds leadership positions within the American College of Cardiology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and remains a leading voice in anticoagulation research and education.
