Dear Friend,

As a valued partner of Boys & Girls Club of Lake County, we are writing to share some bittersweet news. After two and a half years of service, our CEO Megan McKenna will be moving on from BGCLC. During her tenure, Megan transformed many facets of the organization including redesigning the leadership structure and team, expanding our programmatic footprint from three to eight sites, nearly doubling our annual budget, and leading the development of the organization’s first community-based strategic plan, among other achievements. In continuance of her long-term professional passions, Megan will join 4S Bay Partners, a single-family office focused on eliminating prejudices and inequities in our society. Megan will advise on and support 4S Bay’s social impact investments that are designed to create economic opportunities and amplify storytelling of, for, and about marginalized communities in the US and around the world.

In its commitment to developing internal leadership pipelines and in recognition of his outstanding qualifications, the Board of Directors have selected current COO Germain Castellanos to become the next CEO/Executive Director of BGCLC. Germain joined BGCLC in 2022 first as the Director of Development and was later promoted to be the organization’s first Chief Operating Officer. Under Germain’s leadership, BGCLC’s programs have expanded and deepened their impact. He led the expansion of community partnerships, has been integral in the organization’s fundraising growth, and developed and launched program quality improvement efforts. Germain has almost 20 years of experience in the youth development and education spaces in Lake County, having previously served as an executive director, program director, teacher, and non-profit board member among other roles. Having grown up just blocks away from BGCLC’s Genesee Site, Germain is committed to ensuring the availability of youth development programming for Lake County youth going forward.

BGCLC’s Board Chair Brian Guerrant shares: “We are very grateful for Megan’s vision and leadership that has helped the Club evolve in so many ways in a relatively short period time. We will miss her but know that she will be making impact in her new role in even greater ways. We are thrilled to have Germain step into the CEO role and know that his professional qualifications, lived experience, and commitment to our community will take the Club to new heights- ultimately providing greater support, resources, and benefits for young people in Lake County.”

The leadership transition will be effective November 5, 2023. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to Megan or Germain.

Thank you for supporting the mission of BGCLC in inspiring all young people to fulfill their potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
