American Diabetes Month
Making healthy choices and taking steps to manage your diabetes can ensure you don't just live with diabetes but thrive! Diabetes is an epidemic. Over 37 million Americans have diabetes and are therefore at an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, amputation, kidney disease, blindness, and death. Patients usually understand the effect diabetes can have on the cardiovascular and renal systems, but often wonder how diabetes can affect the eyes. Dr. Gwinn, CHDC Optometrist, explains the importance of diabetic patients having a diabetic eye exam every year. To read her article, Click Here.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month
Cigarette smoke harms everyone who inhales it, not just the smoker! If you smoke, it's never too late to benefit from quitting. Common reasons for quitting include:
- Health & Quality of Life - Within minutes of quitting, your body begins to repair the damages caused by smoking.
- The Cost - A pack of cigarettes can cost up to $10 and adds up depending on how often you smoke.
- Convenience - Many public spaces such as parks, bars, and restaurants are smokefree.
- Family and Friends - Secondhand smoke is dangerous and can make you sick no matter your age.
Anyone can develop lung cancer, even non-smokers, but smoking significantly increases the risk. If you smoke, it's not too late to quit! Click Here to learn ways you can start.

U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week
11/18-11/24
We want to raise awareness of the importance of appropriate antibiotic and antifungal use. Antibiotics kill germs like bacteria and fungi. Sometimes our bodies may prevent antibiotics from working and lead to Antibiotic Resistance (AR). To prevent AR, be sure to take medication exactly as prescribed!
Did you know that CHDC has a Medication Dispensary? Patients who qualify for a healthcare discount may receive medications for as low as $7.00 a prescription. To see if you qualify, Click Here.
