Building Trades Students Gain Hands-On Experience While Helping Families

The Career Center Building Trades Program is building more than structures this year - it is building opportunities for the community and the future of the students.

With support from a $20,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, NCCC is launching the NCCC Building Trades and Duke Energy Support Henry County Citizens in Need initiative. The funding will power the Duke Energy–New Castle Career Center Health, Safety, & Energy Improvements Initiative, helping local homeowners while giving students meaningful, hands-on experience during the 2026–2027 school year.

A special thank you to the family of Curt Jackson for their generous memorial contribution to New Castle Career Center. The donation helped us purchase a new classroom toolbox for our Welding program.

We are grateful for their thoughtful support and for helping provide our students with the tools they need to learn and succeed.

Don't Just Dream. Do!

First-year students are starting to learn how to disassemble and reassemble computers. The second-year students are starting to learn about virtualization and are starting on the learning material for computer security.

Education Professions students “dress to impress.” Students were challenged to assemble and present a professional outfit. This is just one aspect of professionalism we discuss and maintain.

Property and Facilities Management students had hands-on practice learning how to properly wear and use a safety harness. Safety first!

WKPW students are back on the air!

Our HSE II students put their infection control skills to the test in our lab!

Using chocolate pudding to represent infectious body fluid, we worked through patient-care scenarios while practicing proper PPE selection, donning, doffing, and contamination prevention.

There were lots of laughs, a little bit of mess, and some pretty important lessons about protecting ourselves and our patients.
