RESEARCH, RESOURCES, AND UPDATES

The Prison Policy Initiative recently analyzed the experiences of transgender respondents to their 2016 Survey of Prison Inmates (released in 2020). Their new report provides critical data on this often-overlooked population, providing insight into how funders can better support trans communities.

A recent report conducted by the Women’s Philanthropy Institute found that certain groups were more likely to financially support racial justice organizations, including single women, Black, LGBTQ+, and younger households.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau on the Household Pulse Survey, LGBT adults reported having more food insufficiency during the pandemic and LGBT people of color were 3 times more likely to face food insufficiency. 

The Human Rights Campaign publishes a healthcare equality index resource guide to help organizations implement best practices in equitable and inclusive care for LGBTQ patients.

This fact sheet provides an overview of data across multiple studies highlighting the disproportional impact the foster care and incarceration systems LBQ women of color. 

This article offers several recommendations for the Biden-Harris administration to uplift LGBTQI+ workers by creating good jobs, advocating anti-discrimination protections, and better data collection on their economic well-being.

Benefiting Ariana Grande’s Protect & Defend Trans Youth Fund, the pioneering filmmakers will sell off props and ephemera from their iconic films to support transgender groups in a range of Southern states. The live online auction begins on May 12th.

The Trans Justice Funding Project celebrates 10 years of groundbreaking community-driven grantmaking to transgender groups across the U.S. with the launch of a new $1 million fundraising campaign.

The Movement Advancement Project reports updates of the current state of LGBTQ states laws and policies in the U.S. including LGBTQ school censorship and bans on best-practice medical care for Trans youth.

RECENT GRANTS AWARDED

During the first quarter of 2022, Arcus awarded grants to organizations that advance international social justice and ape conservation.

At the start of 2022, The Leonard-Litz LGBTQ Foundation made a pledge to award $1 million dollars in grants and have already awarded $250K in grants during the first quarter.

Since its inception in 2018, Third Wave Funds’ Sex Worker Giving Circle has continued to grow, making it the first of its kind where institutional philanthropy foundations are openly supporting sex work.
