A meaningful evening celebrating Harvesting Dreams—exhibit on view at the Downtown Library through April.

On Thursday, April 16 at 6pm, join us for a special hour with Pam Muñoz Ryan, the author of some of the most memorable books for kids and teens. Her stories, including Esperanza Rising, El Niño, Echo, Riding Freedom, and Becoming Naomi León, have reached millions of readers and won major awards like the Newbery Honor and Pura Belpré Award.

Earlier in the day, Ms. Muñoz Ryan will visit students at two local schools. Each year, thanks to the generous support of Friends of the Redwood City Public Library, we are able to bring renowned authors to Redwood City.

Learn more about available child care resources in the community including the services 4Cs Child Care Coordinating Council provides for families in San Mateo County. The event will include resource tables, 4Cs presentation, food, drawings and much more!

On April 18 at 11am, Redwood Shores Branch Library presents a free, family-friendly celebration of Arab American Heritage Month. This volunteer-led program features a bilingual Arabic–English storytime that introduces children of all backgrounds to Arab culture and traditions.With a special appearance by Tala El-fahmawi, author of My Amazing Characteristics. After the story, children will take part in a fun, hands-on craft inspired by Arabic art, patterns, and language.

Two ways to support Friends of the Redwood City Public Library in April!

• Bring gently used books to the Friends donation event on Saturday, April 18. Donations will be accepted at two locations: the Downtown Library (1044 Middlefield Road) from 10am–12pm and the Redwood Shores Library (399 Marine Pkwy) from 10–11:30am. We are seeking books, CDs, and DVDs in very good condition, as well as complete puzzles, video games and albums.
• Join us on April 26 for Library Day with the San Francisco Giants! $5 from each ticket sold will directly benefit the Friends, helping to fund vital library programs. Purchase tickets here and be sure to select Redwood City Public Library under "Which Library are you supporting?"

The City Clerk’s Office has kicked off the annual Board, Commission, or Committee (BCC) recruitment, which will remain open through Sunday, May 3. BCC members serve as ambassadors of the City and provide highly valuable community perspectives that help shape City policies. This year, we are seeking applications from community members to fill 27 vacancies across 10 BCCs. Vacancies include the Arts Commission, Senior Affairs Commission and the Library Board.

World Café 2026



Join us for an evening of storytelling and dialogue on Tuesday, April 21 from 5:30-8pm, held at Sequoia High School.

This year’s World Café theme centers youth voices, as young panelists share their experiences, perspectives and ideas for change.

Youth Poetry and Collage Project

The Youth Poetry & Collage Project is a free two-day workshop for San Mateo County students in grades 6–12, presented by the Center for Creativity and sponsored by the Redwood City Arts Commission. Held May 16–17 from 1-4pm at the Center for Creativity (800 Main Street, Redwood City), students will create original poems and turn them into collage artworks with guidance from professional artists. Participants can share their work at a public reading on May 27 at the Downtown Library.

Pages for Young Ages is hosting a book drive in partnership with Redwood City Teen Advisory Board to secure books for the Children's Book Project.

The Children’s Book Project is especially in need of:
