Paula Gallmore
Bear, Delaware

I found SoulCollage® serendipitously in April 2011, when I came across an ad for a class at my local art alliance. I was curious and looking for a creative outlet to distract me from the chaos of my life. Rummaging through tons of images, I was drawn to the images of female bodies that bid me to explore my then fragile feelings of low self-esteem. Those bodies made up my first card. My second card patched together images of iconic places I’d always wanted to visit, prompted perhaps by my new found freedom. I was energized and intrigued by this new art form that I had found or rather, that had found me.

At first, I was in a frenzy and made cards all the time. I had so much to process with the turmoil erupting daily in my life. I looked for others in my area to share cards and do readings but there was no one. I vowed that I would complete the Facilitator Training and introduce the world of SoulCollage® to Delaware.

It took another 6 years of life transitions, court cases, job loss, more schooling, and embarking on a new career path before I sat under the tutelage of Kat Kirby in 2017 to become a SoulCollage® Facilitator.

Throughout those years of chaos and uncertainty, I had created many cards that helped me deal with my challengers and coax my allies and guides from their hiding places. I am thankful that I was a solo artist during that time—collecting images, snipping, collaging, and discovering parts of my being that had been buried by the burdens of life. I needed that time alone to heal before I could muster up the courage to share anything, including SoulCollage®, with the world. I like to say that during that period of my life, SoulCollage saved my soul and gave me a creative and meaningful path to self-awareness and healing.
After the Facilitator Training, I started sharing SoulCollage® with friends and family in my home. I was always tickled by the surprises that popped out from participants’ cards during those sessions. Then I started running an Art and Grief bereavement group at work. Shortly after starting this group, I experienced an avalanche of personal losses, and created cards to memorialize my loved ones. This helped me with my grief and gave me a deeper appreciation for my Community suit. I felt tremendous empathy for my bereavement group participants as I encouraged them to create their own community cards about their loved ones.

My creative process is now more intuitive, spontaneous, and led by my emotional energy. This allows for a more natural flow as the images come together on the mat board. Sometimes a story is revealed immediately and sometimes not. I have a handful of cards that are still unknown. I hope to be more intentional as I start to add more cards to my Companion and Council suits.

I delight in ripping and sorting images and find that practice to be quite meditative. Now that life is more tranquil, I spend my time preparing to run SoulCollage® workshops for the public. The enthusiasm that I started my SoulCollage® journey with has ebbed and flowed over the years. What I have missed most is a real sense of connection and community and I am thankful for KaleidoSoul and Anne Marie. Though I don’t actively participate in the dialogue, I always read the Kindred Spirits posts. As I unclutter my digital life and focus on the things I truly enjoy like collaging and art journaling, my hope is to be more present and connected in these Kindred Spirits circles.

If you can’t find people in their area doing SoulCollage® but yearn for a sense of community, I hope you will continue to consult your cards and when the time is right, you will be brave enough to extend your enthusiasm to others and forge that connection. I suspect that will be the next phase of my own SoulCollage® journey.
Chaos
Committee Suit

I am the one whose life has been a collage of shattered dreams.
I am the one who cried for my children and yearned for restoration, wanting all the pieces to be put back together the way they were before.
I am the one who finally realized that everything would be okay but would look very different.

Calm
Committee Suit

I am the one who seeks calm in the midst of the chaos.
I am the one who stops to smell the roses and who appreciates silence, tranquility, and peace.
I am the one who wonders what path I will pursue next, what road I will take.

SoulCollage® cards are made either from one's own art or from images found in materials which have been bought by or given to the SoulCollage® card maker. These collaged cards are used only for the cardmaker's own inner exploration.

SoulCollage® cards are not sold, traded, bartered, or copied (except as a back-up for the card maker's own use) as is stated in the Principles of SoulCollage®.

Where SoulCollage® cards are available to be seen by others, it is for the purposes either of demonstrating the SoulCollage® process of sharing the card maker's inner process in the context of community.

SoulCollage® is grateful to the artists and photographers who make this deep awakening process possible and in all ways SoulCollage® seeks to be respectful of their rights.
