Connecting hearts, minds and hands to meet needs in our community
UNITE INDY To Have a New Home
We have taken the first steps to find a new home for our work at UNITE INDY ! If efforts to receive the necessary zoning approvals go through, in a few months we will take up residence on 38th street in one of the neighborhoods we serve. After some needed improvements this will be a great central spot for all our ministry partners to meet and work together to make a difference in our city!
IMPD's Diversity Officer, Captain John Walton
spoke passionately to those of us attending the March Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) Breakfast. His work is the latest in a string of meaningful efforts by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to recognize and act on the importance of a fully integrated and representative police force. IMPD deserves our support in these efforts.
Meet UNITE INDY’ s Sherry Jackson!
Sherry will be taking the reins of implementing our web-based city-wide volunteer sign-up software with Ministry Partners and Indianapolis businesses. She is uniquely qualified to be UI's administrative coordinator and comes with many years of IT managerial experience with companies like Navistar and AT&T. She says, “This new and exciting opportunity with UNITE INDY to assist its Partners to connect with resources, will then aid the Partners to meet the needs of our community. What an awesome assignment as God continues to use my gifts to make a difference in the lives of others...that I count a blessing!"
The Race & Cultural Leadership Network,
headed by Toby Miller, put some local brain power together to work on issues of education, criminal justice, media/civility, gender identification/acceptance, diversity/inclusion and poverty. UNITE INDY' s Jim Cotterill took part with Laura White, Patricia Castaneda, Jan Clark, Jordan Rodriguez and Doran Moreland. Much to be done, great people to work with!
Said Miller: Bringing people together will require a "commitment at all levels, including policy makers, corporate leadership, civic leadership, cultural and religious leadership - everybody has a stake in this."
Throw out self-distain, dislike, fear
and hate. You’ll know you’re getting taken in by the THOUGHT because it is always negative. Something like, I don't look right, they don't accept me...the thought always contains self rejection of some kind. The Word says to love our neighbors as ourselves, but most of us don't love ourselves enough to reject bad thoughts in favor of thinking the best about others, so we end up hurting ourselves.
