The Local Labour Market Plan 2021
|
Workforce Planning Hamilton has created a report to provide an update on the state of the local labour market in 2021 and reflect on preliminary insights for 2022. Hamilton’s labour market has faced an unprecedented impact in the last two years due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As the pandemic ensued, a complex and changing narrative followed, making it difficult to describe and predict the outcome.

Are you thinking of becoming a Manager?
|
Becoming a manager is a natural progression in a career journey. The role of a manager is appealing as it may lead to more influence, increased pay, and the opportunity to have more control over the direction of your career. However, the role may come with increased ambiguity, unclear expectations, and the need to manage various types of employees.
However, sometimes a highly successful individual contributor when promoted to management may not end up being a talented manager. Why is that? Are there some people that are more suited for management?
You might have a sense from working for past managers what the traits are that make a good manager. A good manager makes us feel appreciated, helps us to grow and develop, and provides clear expectations and feedback. In fact, more employees are looking for their manager to be more of a coach than a boss.

Bridging the gap: Resources relating to disability and employment
|
Canadians with disabilities tend to be underemployed compared to those without disabilities. Stigma and inaccessible workplaces make it challenging for many who want to and are able to work find sustainable employment. Statistics Canada research found that among those with disabilities aged 25 to 64 years who were not employed and not currently in school, 645,000 individuals had potential to work. And COVID-19 saw mental health-related disabilities rise among employed Canadians.
There are many organizations to help support job search and career development for people with disabilities, as well as articles, books and other resources that offer helpful information to people with disabilities, employers and service providers. To mark National AccessAbility Week, taking place May 29-June 4, 2022, we have updated this article (originally published in 2019) with several new resources.
