I am pleased to announce that we have hired a new staff member to help us continue serving West County residents.
Tania Pulido is a Richmond resident, and a Richmond High School and RYSE Youth Center Alum. She comes to us with the kind of deep belief in public service and passion to help people that I love to see in my staff and in our community.
Tania is a UC Berkeley grad (Go Bears!) who transferred from Contra Costa College. She previously worked at Urban Tilth, RYSE Youth Center, and Community Housing Development Corporation (a local non-profit affordable housing developer).
Tania is the daughter of immigrants and a fluent Spanish speaker who is dedicated to improving the lives of our most vulnerable and advancing equity in our communities.
Tania was one of the original RYSE Center youth who helped provide input into the design and development of this innovative youth center. It’s great to see her development into an effective community leader in her own right. When we invest in young people, our future is bright.
I am proud to have Tania join our team and I know she will be an effective advocate for West County and be responsive to community needs.
Tania is filling the position previously held by my long-term staffmember Kate Rauch. Kate served in my office for more than 15 years, and is transitioning to have more time for journalism and writing, and other new and familiar work. She will continue her advocacy for elders, (including facilitating the West County Senior Coalition as a volunteer) people with disabilities, and people with mental illness. She also plans to press on with the increasingly urgent need for collaborative wildfire prevention.
Kate also plans to work with her daughter to transition her to supported housing, which, Kate says, will take thinking outside the box or building unboxes as her daughter is smart, stubborn, fiercely independent, and extremely vulnerable. She and Beatrice will continue volunteer teaching their zoom "Just Add Veggies" cooking class with Bea's Toolworks program.
We appreciate Kate’s community service over the years and we will miss her. We welcome Tania and look forward to continuing our work to improve equity, health and prosperity for all Contra Costa residents!
