Family traditions can have a bigger impact on each member of our family than we might think. The American Psychological Association found that family traditions "
are associated with marital satisfaction, adolescents’ sense of personal identity, children’s health, academic achievement and stronger family relationships," and studies by the Society for Research in Child Development show that family traditions help increase a child's self esteem and strengthen family bonds.
Traditions can be fun, free, and fast. They can be on our terms and on our schedule and we can pick and choose what works best for us. There's no right or wrong way to make a family tradition. The only recommendation we have is to work together as a family when creating each tradition.
