BGCCF Update | April 10, 2020
In this most tumultuous of times for our Club families, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida is meeting the challenge head-on. Fueled by your generosity, we’re deploying all of the resources we can to meet the needs of our community’s most vulnerable children, and to provide stability to their families at this time. We hope you’ll be inspired by these stories of our donors and staff doing
whatever it takes
to serve our Club families, and feel inspired to join us through a contribution to our “Club Heroes” campaign.

STAFF HERO: ERIN HARVEY
Feeding the Hunger
Nowhere in Erin Harvey’s job description is picking up day-old sandwiches from WaWa and sourcing peanut butter and jelly. As BGCCF’s Development Officer for Brevard County, Erin typically spends her days raising funds to support Club operations, and planning donor stewardship outreach and events. But now, in addition to these duties, Erin begins her day distributing breakfast and lunch packs at our Temple Terrace Branch in Melbourne, and ends each week coordinating a “drive through” for weekend meal supplies at our Cocoa Branch. “It’s just what I need to be doing right now to serve our children,” said Erin.

MEETING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WHERE THEY ARE
Even before our Club doors closed on March 17, our staff began creating online programming to reach our Club members while they are confined to home. Our “Cyber Clubhouse” opened for business March 24, with new activity schedules uploaded daily for our youth and teens. To date, we’ve received more than 3,000 page visits in our Cyber Clubhouse, where children can enjoy exercise routines, craft lessons, and more, all specially created by the service directors they love from their Clubs.

Importantly, our Service Directors are also making daily “check in” calls to our families, helping to connect them with community resources in these difficult economic times. Our Family Relief fund was created to solve acute financial crises that are discovered during these conversations, including rent and utility relief, and child care stipends that help parents maintain employment.

And now, a word from our Chairman:
Brock Nicholas, President of Lennar Orlando and Chairman of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, shares a personal reflection of why supporting our Club Heroes campaign is so critical at this time.
Deepest gratitude to the following generous donors who have already joined our Club Heroes campaign. You are ensuring that our organization, and our families, stay strong through this crisis, and that we will emerge with renewed purpose to create great futures for our Club members!
