Meet Madelaine Hamilton-Provost, our Alumni & Programs Coordinator. Madelaine is a Lowell High School graduate, art educator, and exhibiting mixed-media artist who currently resides in her hometown of Lowell, MA. She graduated from Lowell High School in 2016 and received her MAT in art education from Tufts University in 2021, and a BA in art history and studio art from Clark University in 2020.
Her student-centered, multidisciplinary approach to visual art instruction is informed by her professional background in curation and gallery administration. She specializes in 2D and 3D design, portrait drawing and painting, printmaking, and mixed media.
She is MA DESE certified to teach young artists from grades PK-12 with a focus on middle and high school students.

Engage and Inspire Lowell Students |

Are you a Lowell High Alumni who wants to make a difference in the lives of the next generation of LHS students? We are looking for professional volunteers to speak to LHS students about their careers, lived experiences, and education!
We have two amazing opportunities coming up for LHS Alumni to get connected with students.
Get involved by volunteering to speak to students about lived experiences through the perspective of members in the Black/African-American Community, the Hispanic Community, the Disabled Community, the Indigenous Community, the Asian American Community, or the LGBTQ+ community, as part of the course "American History Through Our Eyes." If you are interested in being a part of this class speaking series, you can reach out to Amanda directly at aernst@lowell.k12.ma.us.
Additionally, Lowell High is seeking career professionals in trades such as HCAV, plumbing, and electrical to come to speak to students at LHS on October 13th! You can reach out directly at lblouin@lowell.k12.ma.us.

It takes an entire community to support the education of its students.
Save the Date Thursday, October 28th & join us for 24 hours!
Your online donation will bring 10,000 books to young kids, teach 300 girls to code, and connect 75 Lowell High students with a career internship this spring.
This year we aim to raise $14,023, $1 for every LPS student!

LHS Students Complete Commencement 2 Careers Internships |

This summer, Project LEARN placed 74 Lowell High School students in local internships through the Commencement 2 Careers (C2C) program during its second year. C2C is a six-week program that delivers project-based work experience directly to Lowell High students.
As part of C2C, students work with their internship host partner to gain real-world work experiences. Additionally, students participated in weekly professional development training sessions and completed a final presentation highlighting the projects that they worked on and the skills they developed.
Marti Cohn, Lowell High class of 1974, had the chance to work with two of our C2C Interns at the Lowell Waterways Project. She reflected on her time with the students:
"Until this experience, none of the interns knew much about the walkway. It was really rewarding seeing them embrace the beauty of the space and to see how they planned to share this “newfound” magnificent Lowell attraction with others. They came up with innovative ideas to include high school students and staff, community businesses, and a variety of events to attract more city members to enjoy a peaceful and appealing place in their city."
Upon completion of the C2C internship program, interns graduated with a certificate of completion, career experience, as well as a $500 stipend!

Over 250 Lowell Public School (LPS) students participated in this year's IDEA Camps, providing five weeks of educational and enriching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) workshops throughout the year.
With a different look this year, IDEA Camp 2021 was a hybrid model and completely free for LPS students with workshops including:
- Crime Science
- Spheros
- Architecture
- Painting with Perspective
- Got Dirt? (Cooking & Food Science)
- Mind-Body Wellness
- STEM Challenge Mashup
- Kinetic Sculpture Race Info
- And more!

Erinn McLaughlin, Lowell High School class of 2011, has been a part of IDEA Camp since 2015 when she participated as a UTeach instructor while studying at UMass Lowell. Today, she is one of the outstanding educators working at the Stoklosa Middle School and an essential member of our summer IDEA Camp team.
"IDEA camp is not just a camp for kids to go to, it is a way for them to explore, create, and use their imaginations in ways that they don't even realize. IDEA Camp is one of the best STEM camps around for students!"
After graduating from UMass Lowell in 2015, Erinn went on to earn her Master's degree in middle school mathematics at Salem State Univeristy. Currently, she is in the application process of UMass Lowell's doctoral program for STEM teaching. Project LEARN is so honored to have such a dedicated Lowell educator, resident, and alumni member on our IDEA Camp team!

ABOUT US
From mentors, advisors, guest speakers, tutors and more, Lowell High Alumni are valuable resources for current students. The Lowell High Alumni Association, funded in part from the Cummings Foundation, is a collaboration between Project LEARN, the Greater Lowell Community Foundation and the Lowell Public School district. The mission of the Alumni Association is to help alumni connect with each other, to engage with the school, community and to inspire future generations of LHS students through mentoring, advising and tutoring. We invite alumni to connect and find ways to work on new and existing programs within the schools to better the academics and the lives of all Lowell Public School students.
