The Revolution Highway

Technology continues to revolutionize our lives. Just think of all the new devices and apps we use today that didn't exist ten years ago. We have amazing resources at our fingertips every day at incredible speeds. Now think where we will be in ten years moving forward as driverless cars are on the verge of the mainstream. Robots are available for nearly every mundane chore. The way we communicate, the way we pay our bills and the way we are entertained have all drastically changed in the last few years compared to the way we did it as young adults or as children growing up. It's a lot of fun to see and play with these new devices and explore new apps and games. It's fantastic to think a Tesla car will see performance improvement simply from a software update buts its true.

As we work in an industry that pushes the limits as to what will be the next big thing, the  PCB is at the heart of moving these revolutionary technologies forward. To some that's great, for others it's a lot of hard work to stay current with technology trends. 5G is a simple example in that we are already seeing the push on the materials used to make the PCBs. The requirements of 5Gs increased data needs and speed put a lot of new stresses on everyone designing and manufacturing PCBs. As a supplier of materials, Taiyo America is looking into all types of technologies to accommodate new growth areas. We are providing products that meet today's technological needs while developing new products that will be there for the next generation of tools.

Taiyo has new digital solder mask solutions, high temperature solder mask and via fill materials as well as thermal management products to mitigate deformation. We spent several years developing digital solutions for LDI/DI and now inkjet technology; all these technologies are in production now building PCBs. LDI/DI eliminated the registration issue many had in manufacturing PCBs but now inkjet solves the other two major issues of mask in hole and mask on pad. OEMs are going to be thrilled to have PCBs built knowing that the holes and pads never had solder mask on them. On top of that, you have just saved money in manufacturing the PCB and you made the environment greener. For via fill material we have designed materials with higher Tg and lower CTE's, both working to solve these new technology challenges. Lastly, heat spreader is a product to help manage the thermal stress that is generated in these new PCB designs that everyone wants smaller, faster and more powerful.

So, let the revolution continue and keep the cool devices coming and Taiyo will supply you with  products to make them a reality.

The Road to Producing PCBs

One of the benefits of working for Taiyo America is that I have the opportunity to visit many PWB shops across the industry.  Although all PWB fabricators share a common goal - to produce printed circuit boards, the path used to reach that end will vary considerably from shop to shop. How each PWB shop processes their LPI solder mask is no exception. Read more...
