Last month, George O’Meara ('59), Martha Roughan ('62), Wadie Bahou ('71), James Milinazzo ('72) and Rachel Woo ('86) were all honored as the newest inductees of the Lowell High School Distinguished Alumni. From groundbreaking achievements in education, medicine, and public service to leadership in sports and civic engagement, this year’s inductees exemplify the dedication and impact that Lowell High students continue to bring to the world.

George O'Meara

Class of 1959

Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida’s Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory, George's 41-year career in teaching, administration and mosquito-biology research earned state and national recognition.

Martha Roughan

Class of 1962

After entering the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1966 and earning master’s degrees at Boston College and Notre Dame, Martha served for decades as a teacher and administrator across the U.S., committing her life to faith-based educational leadership. 

James Milinazzo

Class of 1972

With over 40 years in private and public sector leadership, James served as Mayor of Lowell ('10-'11), as director of Planning & Development during the city’s downtown revitalization, and as executive director of both the Lowell and Revere Housing Authorities. 

Wadie Bahou

Class of 1971

A physician turned academic, he earned his medical degree at UMass, subspecialized in hematology/oncology at University of Michigan and is now Professor of Medicine at Stony Brook University in New York.

Rachel Woo

Class of 1986

A pioneer for girls and women in soccer, Rachel Woo established Lowell High’s girls’ program, played collegiately at Colgate and then rose to officiate at the highest levels of the sport, including appointment to the FIFA panel of international referees.

On Thursday November 20th, Lowell High School will honor a new class of standout athletes at the 2025 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony!
