Meet the Co-Chairs of ASLM2023
The African Society for Laboratory Medicine is excited to announce the co-chairs of ASLM2023, which will be held in person from 12–15 December 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa! It is our privilege to be joined by Dr Kamy Chetty, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Laboratory Service in South Africa and Prof Abderhamane Maaroufi, Director of the Institut Pasteur in Morocco. Both of these remarkable leaders have made significant contributions to the fields of laboratory medicine and global health. 
Dr Kamy Chetty is a medical doctor and specialist in public health medicine and has a Masters degree in urban and regional planning. She is CEO of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), the largest diagnostic laboratory service in South Africa. Dr Chetty has over 30 years experience in the healthcare environment, of which over 20 years have been in senior management and executive positions. She has been a head of department of a provincial health department, and a deputy director general at both provincial and national levels, and also has private sector experience. Dr Chetty’s strengths include public health sector leadership, corporate governance, strategic planning, operational implementation, financial management, health economics, human resources planning, training and development, health information, supply chain management, and research.
Prof Abderrahmane Maaroufi is a medical doctor with additional degrees in infectious diseases and epidemiology. He is the Head of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine (Morocco). Previously, Prof Maaroufi was Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Director of the National School of Public Health, and National Focal Point for International Health Regulations. Prof Maaroufi has participated in many missions of expertise with the World Health Organization and other international organisations. He is the founder of the Field Epidemiology Training Program in Morocco. Prof Maaroufi is a laureate of the ‘Rising Star Award’, delivered by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta and a laureate of the scholarship of excellence of the Canadian Francophone Scholarship Program, delivered by the Canadian Government.
