EAST CLEVELAND, OH – The East Cleveland Public Library is being graced with musical talent from across the pond.
On Tuesday, June 17th, 2025, as part of Black Music Month, the ECPL welcomes renowned British composer Errollyn Wallen to our community. The “Meet the Composer” event begins at 2:30 pm, featuring activities for the entire family to enjoy.
In partnership with Chamberfest Cleveland and the Cleveland Museum of Art’s StudioGo, the event will include entertainment throughout the day; a special On-Stage Conversation with Wallen, Art and Percussion Activities, and light refreshments leading up to the performance starting at 6:00 pm. The main performance of works by Errollyn Wallen is in the Greg L. Reese Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public. Parking is free and located around the building.
Performers include Wallen as composer, vocals and piano; Francesca Depasquale and David McCarroll on violin; Emad Zolfaghari on viola; Oliver Herbert on cello; Gabriel Globus-Hoenich and Tanner Tanyeri on percussion.
Errollyn Wallen, CBE is a Belize-born British composer and one of the world’s top 20 most performed living classical composers. Her acclaimed work spans over 20 operas and a vast range of orchestral, chamber, and vocal music performed worldwide. She has composed for the 2012 Paralympics, royal jubilees, COP26, and BBC Proms. Her opera Dido’s Ghost premiered in 2021 and debuted in the U.S. in 2023. Wallen’s collaborations include award-winning work with artist Sonia Boyce and recent commissions for leading orchestras. She was named Master of the King's Music in August 2024 and is also the author of Becoming a Composer, published in 2023. Her music has even traveled to space aboard NASA’s STS-115 mission.
In August 2024, Errollyn Wallen was appointed Master of the King’s Music.
