In this issue, we introduce you to the director of our next show, let you know of some upcoming workshops through U of T Spotlight and tell you about a one-night only concert event coming up in the New Year.

Julie Tomaino and "long, beautiful Hair ..."

We are pleased to have the incomparable Julie Tomaino joining us this season as the Director and Choreographer of Hair. Julie is an award-winning choreographer who has worked across the country in theatres such as The Globe Theatre, Theatre Magnus, The Citadel, Theatre Calgary and many more. her energetic, mesmerizing choreography has gained her critical acclaim as well as the admiration of audiences. A quick glance at her resume and the breadth of her experience and capability is clear: Crazy For You, How To Succeed.., Chess,The Buddy Holly Story, The Rocky Horror Show, We Will Rock You, Once, From Here To Eternity, Saturday Night Fever, On The Town, Cabaret and Mary Poppins are just a few of the hit musicals to which she has lent her talents. We look forward to seeing her work on stage in the new year!

Workshops galore through U of T Spotlight

The workshops series is designed to facilitate an intimate environment where students from any level of experience can learn theatrical skills from a leader’s experience. Enrollment is free and priority placement is given to U of T Students. Non students may show interest and will be contacted should there be space for them to attend.

Guest Production this Weekend

Taking our stage this weekend is a musical cabaret from UC Follies: B Side: A Rock Cabaret! Featuring classic, b-sides tunes and student rockers, this show plays for this weekend only.

The UC Follies is a student theatre troupe based at the University of Toronto that provides an inclusive space for amateur and professionally-minded theatre makers to develop their skills through hands-on learning. Their history goes back to the beginning of the University of Toronto, when the Follies performed musical sketch comedy revues at Hart House Theatre.

Vocalist Nikky Lawrence for one night only

This is a one night only performance with actor and powerful vocalist Nicky Lawrence!

Featuring the songs and stories of female jazz and blues greats - Billie, Ella, Nina, Lena, Etta, Dinah and Sarah. This musical journey and d iscussion will not only reflect on their histories, but also consider the present realities and emerging futures for black Canadian women and black female artists globally.

Nicky’s personal experiences and perspectives on the “ugly black woman”, through her own stories and music, will be part of this unique concert and dialogue.
