About the Program

Financial issues are often the most difficult aspects of a case. Complicated financial issues may be present in a family law case regardless of its size. Meet the Financial Professionals is a two-part series designed to educate family law attorneys about how to work effectively with financial professionals and the types of financial expertise that will prove invaluable in successfully representing your clients through case resolution and beyond.

Following the success of our longstanding Meet the Mental Health Professionals program, this two-part series will develop your ability to spot and evaluate financial issues, introduce you to professionals you can call for help, and inform your decision about when to engage the services of financial professionals.

Part two will focus on steps family law attorneys and their clients can take to prepare for life after divorce. Topics will include tax considerations of a settlement, trust structures, and estate planning for both simple and complex cases, ways clients can take control of their wealth, and the optimal time to bring outside advisors into the mix.

These programs are presented by the Family Law section, chaired by Erin Grey and Chelsea Stevens. This program is chaired by Ellyn Stein, Dan Bemel, Karen Silver, and Debra Frank. Find out more about the section at www.bhba.org.
