Guns, Congress & More:

US Congresswoman Lucy McBath

Sunday, November 12, 3:30 pm

Scarsdale Public Library

On Black Friday in 2012, US Congresswoman Lucy McBath’s son, Jordan Davis, was sitting in the back seat of a friend’s car at a gas station. A man pulled up next to them, complaining about the “loud music” they were playing. The man pulled out a gun and fired 10 shots into the car, hitting Jordan three times, and killing him. After Jordan’s death, McBath dedicated her life to preventing other families from experiencing the same pain she did and became a leading advocate for gun control policy in Congress.

Since taking her oath of office in January of 2019, McBath has sought bipartisan solutions to end gun violence, uplift small business and our economy, protect and serve our nation’s veterans, protect the education of our children, protect those with pre-existing conditions and ensure all Americans have access to quality, affordable care; lower the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs.

Focusing on…

DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION

The Forum’s Downtown Revitalization Committee is working on a number of projects through its working groups. Here's some of what we're working on!

  • The Dine the ‘Dale tent was moved to the eastern end of Spencer Place. We will assess the community’s reaction to this move and suggest other community-building improvements.
  • In March 2022, we recommended that the Village take next steps in exploring the creation of a Business Improvement District (a “BID”) for the Village Center. We’re exploring this further now.
  • We will make recommendations for traffic and pedestrian safety in collaboration with the Forum's Municipal Services Committee.
  • Revisiting potential development of the Freightway Garage site.
  • Parking, or lack thereof, is a perennial issue. How much parking is needed in the Village Center? Do visitors know where to park their cars? Are there sufficient handicapped spaces for our seniors?
