Christina Dahl

Pianist, Christina Dahl will be joining members of the  Amici Quartet for this Sunday's ART concert. As a returning artist, we asked her about her experience performing for the ART series and she remarked, "A couple years ago during a rehearsal, I took a practice break and began reading the names of the donors and important church members on the walls. It was bittersweet---a real sense of the history of Tremont, and of time passing and a sudden sharp realization about how ephemeral it is to play live music. It's in the air, and then it's gone and that's a good thing and a melancholy thing at the same time! And both times I played, the audiences were very open to a combination of new and 'old' music in a very warm-hearted way."
Tina's love for the outdoors has exhibited itself as both a hiker and a biker, with her husband, trombonist Richard Stout. As musicians, they find a lot of analogies between hiking and playing:  "both require intense and disciplined preparation, both make me nervous in advance, and then both have the possibility to be breathtaking and memorable!"

While Tina doesn't bike any more, she talked about how  "riding is super scary and exhilarating for me--taking a fast curve does feel a little like jumping into a fast movement of chamber music---there is the fun of it, the physical challenge and that tiny nagging thought that, well, you might die doing it. I think for musicians we sometimes do feel like it's that scary on stage! The natural beauty available on both a ride and a hike is unmatched by anything else for me except the gorgeous and spiritual quality of great music."

Tina will join Takako Masame, Miho Hashizume and Ralph Curry in a performance of Beethoven's Op. 1, No. 1, E-flat Major Piano Trio, written in 1794-95.
