Christian Challenge's Surge retreat focuses on 'Love in Action'
In order for us to act on God’s love, we must first be delivered from our love of darkness. Jesus delivers us, and His love propels us to love others. This was the all-encompassing theme of this year’s Surge.
Surge is Christian Challenge’s annual collegiate retreat, serving both as a catalyst for spiritual growth and a support to discipleship in the local church.
This year, more than 200 students from 13 different college campuses across Arizona gathered for Surge at Granite Hills Retreat and Conference Center in Prescott Feb. 17-19. At least two students made professions of faith in Christ during the weekend.

At Arizona Southern Baptist Disaster Relief training in Phoenix last month, Dave and Norma Turner received the Send Relief Distinguished Service Award for distinguished volunteer ministry through Southern Baptist Disaster Relief. They would have been presented with this national award in January 2022 at the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Roundtable, a twice-a-year gathering of the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief state directors; however, they left the meeting early for a Disaster Relief callout.

At the January 2023 Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Roundtable, Patty Kirchner received the Laddie Adams Service Award for having served as the Arizona Southern Baptist Disaster Relief director from 2018 to 2022.

The Cactus Dance/La Danza del Cactus
April Lesher, member of The Bridge Church, Mesa
|
What is this book about?
Written in both Spanish and English, The Cactus Dance/La Danza del Cactus invites readers to join a saguaro cactus and other desert wildlife in a monsoon celebration as they playfully stomp, growl, twirl and howl through the story.
What do you want your readers to gain by reading your book?
I want readers to DANCE -- to rattle, wiggle, stomp, jiggle as they read the story. It’s best read with kids, but, hey, … dogs, squirrels and chinchillas love stories too.
Who do you hope will read this book?
Arizonans who understand the thrill of a monsoon storm, parents with kids, youth pastors wearing shackets, and lead pastors who struggle with lapel mics.

Matt & Amanda Hadden
Pine Ridge Reservation in Porcupine, South Dakota, is home to the Oglala Lakota tribe. It is one of the largest and poorest reservations in the United States, and less than 3% claim to know Jesus. After visiting on a short-term mission trip, Matt Hadden said, “I could hear people speaking a different language and realized I had entered a different culture right here in my own country. Looking around, I saw tremendous need. These people had been forgotten and I knew God was calling me here.” Today, Matt and his wife Amanda lead the Čhaŋkú Wašté Ranch, a ministry center on the reservation, where they provide spiritual hope, as well as physical hope through free home repair, medical services through a newly opened clinic, and host a summer kids camp. Your financial support through the Cooperative Program and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering helps missionaries reach the forgotten by being the hands and feet of Jesus. Pray for the Haddens to have God’s wisdom and favor as they continue to meet the many needs of the Oglala Lakota people.
